Friends,
I have reviewed DVDs of various conference presentations and a few points stuck with me that I think might be useful in taking this project forward.
One point is this concept of “World Class” Bill Strickland put forward as necessary for 1) drawing the right crowd, and 2) setting the right tone.
Another concept in many presentations is a sense of high purpose – or what I might call High Dreaming.
The third “anchor concept” from Chip Conely’s presentation is “meeting unanticipated customer needs.”
With this as a starting point, I invite the group to share (on this blog) their thoughts on three elements when thinking of future Business & Consciousness conferences. That is:
- What does “World Class” look like to you?
- What “Dreaming” do you bring with you to this project?
- What are the “Unanticipated Needs” we hope to address with future conferences?
With this as starting point – let’s see how far we can get. AND if you want to suggest additional or different questions . . . you should of course do so. Please click on the “comments” button below and let us know what you think!
M!

I believe that the next conference would need to appeal to a diverse group, take place in a quality venue with outstanding speakers.
One of the things that struck me particularly about Bill Strickland is how he is able to persuade people to give of themselves through talent or money, regardless of their belief system or political stance.
He accomplished this by not judging people, by persistence and hard work, and by building a quality center, one that anyone would be proud to be associated with. His dreams became a real plan that worked!
As discussed in our meeting we need big corporate sponsors. From several people's comments at the meeting, we appear to have the talent to put together film clips for promotions and marketing, etc.. There were also a few people who had ideas and insights into procuring corporate sponsors, and even voiced that a $150,000 corporate sponsorship would not be a problem.
The Message Company did a tremendous job in putting the past conference together, it was the marketing that was lacking. We need to reach out to corporations. After all corporations are made up of people just like us. We already get the message, and others are just waiting for the right opportunity to join in. We need to wake up the sleeping majority.
So, to appeal to the corporate bottom line, we need to show them a benefit to their company; improved employee retention, better morale, which in turn increases profits. Robert Ouimet showed us that this is possible. Chip Conley showed us that employees remember being treated well, to not burn bridges because you may need each other sometime in the future. Stephen M.R. Covey showed us what trust can do. The list goes on.
My husband Steve and I are small business owners. We already apply much of what was discussed at the conference to our business, but we still took away so much. We are always eager to learn of new ways to make business and life work better.
I have friends that work for big corporations that want to come to the next conference. A very diverse group I might add. The more we can bring people together for a common goal, the less we will be different.
We stand by our pledge of $2000.00. This may seem like a drop in the bucket, but it is a start and a big commitment for a small business.
I look forward to hearing from the many talented people in our group.
Debbie
